HP TouchPad Tablet Review

hp touchpad
In fact, it's a highly tactile and solid-feeling, if not weighty, device and – here's the shocker – we really, really like it. And if it can undercut the iPad on price? Then it's a serious contender.HP representatives were obviously coy on price but, for the record, we don't think it will be as cheap as the iPad (not that the iPad is cheap).HP webOS 3.0 seems like a superb interface and one that might well withstand the Android 3.0 Honeycomb onslaught. But, we must say, that there's still a little work to be done. When changing the orientation of the tablet it doesn't respond instantly. There's a pause with Honeycomb, but the TouchPad takes a lot longer.
And though it might not be a huge amount of time, it's these little things you notice when comparing webOS to Honeycomb and iOS.
The new tablet looks far better than it does in many photos and isn't as plasticky as it might appear. Here it is in the wireless charging dock (more details on the tech involved later).
There is a clever wireless pairing tech involved – it's the same Touchstone tech that's used in wireless charging for the Palm Pre. Hold the new Pre3 to the TouchPad's physical button and it will 'take' the web page that you have on the screen so you can continue to use it on your phone if you move off.Messaging is also extremely good, while the email is laid out really nicely. Each new mail you write opens as a new card so, if you want to, you can leave a card and return to it later.
Again the Messaging also works with your HP phone handset if you have one. Receive a text on your Pre3 or Veer and it will appear on your TouchPad.Photos are also a great experience – there's full Facebook integration (presumably more services will be supported at launch). You can also add Facebook comments from the image window. Our colleagues at T3.com grabbed some HP TouchPad video footage which you can watch below.
The webOS cards system works fantastically well on the tablet and the multitasking is wonderfully fluid. It's great to be able to flick cards on and off the screen and move between them. The operating system will need better support for developers though.

Unlocked Nokia N800 Cell Phone Review

The Nokia N800 GSM Cell Phone is the company's follow-up to the 770 Internet Tablet, somewhat of a pioneering device that brought web browsing away from the computer and into the lounge room, or indeed anywhere you can get a data connection. The Nokia N800 is not a phone, nor does it have PDA functionality, yet it is an interesting device and one that I find very handy to have around. We will be focusing mainly on the changes between the Nokia 770 and unlocked nokia N800 gsm cell phone in this brief review, so it should be read in conjunction with our in depth review of the 770. While the Nokia N800 runs a new version of Nokia's Internet Tablet Operating System, the most noticeable updates are in the design. Where the Nokia 770 was a retro-cool device, the N800 has a sleek and modern design that feels great in the hand. Everything is very solid, and its 206g (7.3oz) weight does not cause fatigue during prolonged use. The N800 measures 144mm x 75mm x 13mm (5.7" x 3.0" x 0.5"), making it perfect for holding in the palm of the hand.

The front of the N800 is silver with a chrome rim. The left side of the front holds a five-way d-pad that blinks a light blue color when the device is in standby, charging, or has a low battery. Below this, you can find the back, menu, and home buttons. Stereo speakers are located on either side of the screen. The left edge of the N800 holds the pop-out video camera, and while it swivels up and down 270 degrees, there is no adjustment left and right, meaning you must hold the device at a funny angle when making a video call. The right edge of the device has a 3.5mm headset jack, standard Nokia charger port, the stylus silo, and, hidden behind the foldout stand, a miniUSB port. The bottom of the Nokia N800 has one of the two SD memory card slots, while the top has the zoom keys, full screen toggle key, and the power button. Behind the easy to remove battery cover on the back of the N800 lives the SD second memory card slot and the 1500MaH battery, good for a manufacturer claim of three hours WiFi usage or 10 days of standby. My testing showed these figures to be quite accurate.

Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 Cell Phone For Sale(Review)

The Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 is an Android-based smartphone for users who need advanced navigation functionality. In addition to preloaded navigation and maps for pedestrians and drivers, the nuvifone A50 also comes with various other features, such as personalized interface, Microsoft Exchange support and Street View in Google MapsThe long rumored Nuvifone jump to Android is here just as we get set to kick off Mobile World Congress next week. Garmin and ASUS claim that the A50 brings "more location technology than any other smartphone" with a plethora of location-aware apps making use of a highly sensitive (though unnamed) GPS receiver. Spec-wise, the A50 packs a 3.5-inch HVGA (that's 480x320 pixels, presumably) capacitive touchscreen with custom, finger-friendly UI, 4GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, and accelerometer for the usual portrait to landscape mode flip. The A50 uses satellite, network-based, and terrestrial sources to quickly zero in on your location and comes pre-loaded with Garmin turn-by-turn navigation, lane assist with junction view, and maps -- no need to download them over the network (and risk data dead spots), eh Google. In fact, it's ready for in-vehicle (ships with car mount and vehicle power cable) or pedestrian navigation out of the box. The A50 also brings on-device sync with Microsoft Exchange server and includes all the usual Google mobile services like search by voice, Maps with Street View, Gmail, YouTube, and Android Market. Rounding things out are a multitouch WebKit-based browser and 3 megapixel autofocus camera that automatically geo-tags your snaps. The A50 will launch in Europe in the first half of 2010 though pricing has not been announced. We're still digging for more specs but will definitely be back with a detailed hands-on from Barcelona next week.
