Dual sliders: Unlocked Fujitsu Concept Goes Four Ways Slider Reviews

Fujitsu is in Milan for the Triennale di Milano Japanese design expo this week showing off a few early concept gadgets. Among them is a four-way slider cellphone that sports a virtual keypad. In essence, you can slide the keypad panel up, down, left or right and the keypad will appear where appropriate. Four buttons are on the face of the decidedly iPod-looking concept. Since it is but a concept, don't expect to see the cellphone on the market in the near future. Fujistu also has at the Milan expo a more traditional slider cellphone complete with a full keyboard, but that's not quite as exciting.T3 magazine has an exclusive hands on report on the amazing fujitsu concept phone which i've posted about in the past. Here is a handset which you would be forgiven for thinking if it was a phone, Games machine, MP3 player, or Camcorder? Depends which way you flick it and its beautiful to boot.

The beauty of this sexy device is that it can slide up,down, left and right to reveal a different set of keys each time. There’s even a nifty touch-sensitive slider to adjust volume when you’re playing back MP3s or video, and a set of “normal" navigation keys up front for making calls.

Fujitsu says the design will make an appearance in real phones next year, here's hopeing.
Hey LG: why slide just two ways, like your SH100, when you could slide four? That's the question Fujitsu seems to be asking with a new concept phone they're parading around these days. The rounded, almost egg-like handset appears to feature touch sensitivity for virtually every control -- well, it would, anyway, if it were a functional prototype -- and can be slid in all four cardinal directions for access to different functions. Left reveals a keypad (though usability might be a concern here), right offers music controls, up gives you camera / video recording stuff, and down appears to reveal gaming controls, not to mention a traditional d-pad on the phone's surface. While this particular example will never be seeing the light of day on a store shelf, Fujitsu says they expect to see similarly-equipped models coming to market some time in 2007.
