Sony Ericsson has announced its first ever Walkman brand smartphone running Google Android 2.1 Eclair update in Indonesia. Sporting 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, the new Sony Ericsson W8 walkman smartphone looks very similar to Xperia X8. There's no word on the pricing and this phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malayasia, Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in Azure Blue, Metallic Red and Iconic Orange.



The Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman delivers on all counts, providing the user with an impressive and aesthetically appealing unit which is compact at only 99 mm x 54 mm wide whilst being 15 mm thick and weighing 104 g in weight. The unit utilises the eclair version of the android operating system in addition to a 600 MHz processor.
The unit comes with a 3.0 inch TFT display screen which is capacitive and also offers touch screen capability. In addition the units display screen provides outstanding quality image display by virtue of the 16 million colours the unit can display within a 320 x 480 pixel screen size. The screen also comes with a scratch resistant surface in utilises the timescape user interface for purposes of navigation, whilst also provided the added benefit accelerometer and proximity sensors.
The unit comes with a digital compass, a Walkman player and you would expect, satellite navigation with A-GPS support, a stereo FM radio with RDS as well as an MP4/MP3 multimedia player.
